Jaykub Smith

In 2016 Jaykub Smith started his career in corrections with the Washington State Department of Corrections at the age of just 18 years old. 

During this time Jaykub would also attend the National Institute Corrections (NIC) where he achieved 13 certifications ranging from Inmate Suicide Prevention all the way to Advanced Incident Command System.

In 2021, Jaykub was recruited by The Texas Department Of Criminal Justice and decided to move to Texas and join the team.

Immediately upon entering his new unit in Texas Jaykub was assigned to be the Security Threat Group Officer. 

After a few years, Jaykub achieved his goal of promoting to not just a sergeant but a Training Sergeant at the Region 3 training Academy while also simultaneously being elected president of AFSCME Council 3114.
